Early years foundation stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework sets out the standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to five. In line with the EYFS curriculum, learning experiences of the highest quality are planned, considering children’s needs, stage of development and their interests. This ensures that the children have the very best start to their education.

There are seven areas of learning and all areas are important and inter-connected.

The 7 areas of learning

There are three prime areas which are:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development

There are four specific areas through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. These specific areas are:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

At the setting, the children learn skills, acquire new knowledge and demonstrate their understanding through the seven areas of learning.
